Discovery Flight FAQs

Q: I’ve never flown before. Will a discovery flight work for me?

A: A discovery flight is the perfect introduction to a small aircraft! You won’t be expected to know how to fly, and one of our Certificated Flight Instructors will be there to show you everything you need to know!

Q: How long will the flight last? What will I do during the flight?

A: All our discovery flights include a ground briefing and up to one hour in the air. You will sit in the left (pilot’s) seat, with a Certificated Flight Instructor in the right seat to help you learn the basics!  All our aircraft have dual flight controls so your instructor will make the takeoff and landing, and will always be able to fully control the aircraft.

Q: Do I need a passport or birth certificate to take a discovery flight?

A: No. While this is a real “flight lesson,” the TSA does not require that we verify your citizenship for the first flight.

Q: What kind of plane will I be in for my discovery flight?

A: CTI Professional Flight Training’s single engine aircraft of choice is the brand new Diamond DA-20-C1.  The Diamond DA-20 has an industry-leading safety record and outstanding fuel economy. The advanced instrument panel allows our students to train on the same type of navigation and communication gear used in commercial aircraft.

Q: What should I wear/bring?

A: Dress is casual. Remember that our airplanes are heated but not air conditioned. And you'll spend up to 20 minutes outdoors prior to your flight. So just dress to be comfortable, in pants or shorts. As for what to bring... a camera and this voucher are about all you'll need!

Q: What do I do if I want to fly again?

A: If you’re ready to start flying regularly, talk to your flight instructor to learn about the various programs we offer, from a Private Pilot Certificate through the full Professional Pilot Program! Because you flew with a Certificated Flight Instructor, your entire discovery flight can be logged towards the necessary time to earn your Private Pilot License.
