Memphis Air Show

The Memphis Airshow

Memphis AirshowMillington Regional Jetport is the home for our Memphis flight training facility but it is also home to the annual Memphis Air Show. The Memphis Airshow is a two day event that takes place every October and it is the perfect attraction for fans of airplanes and aviation.  Families are warmly welcomed as kids up to age 4 are free and tickets for children 5-12 are available at a discounted rate.  There is also a children’s activity center that is complete with fun attractions for the youngsters.

The Memphis Airshow is the place to watch spectacular aerobatic performers take to the skies and show off their remarkable piloting skills. Watch the largest air show team in the world (known as Team AeroDynamix) put on a dazzling presentation of mid-air prowess. Stare in awe as certified flight instructor and airline transport pilot Skip Stewart tear through the sky in his custom and self built airplane. The 101st Airborne Parachute Team known as the Screaming Eagles are guaranteed to entertain you as they put on a fearless skydiving show. There are many other performers at the Memphis Airshow but one of the most popular attractions every year are the world renowned Blue Angels.

The Blue Angels

The Bluye AngelsThe United States Navy’s flight exhibition team (commonly referred to as the Blue Angels) is featured at the airshow and they are definitely a sight to be seen. Watch the Blue Angels spread their wings and pull off breathtaking stunts in mid-air with grace, precision, and fearlessness. The FA-18 jets that the Blue Angels fly are some seriously fast and maneuverable machines as they can reach speeds of nearly 1400 miles per hour (nearly twice the speed of sound). The C-130 or “Fat Albert” is a huge military transport aircraft that the Angles usually fly at the beginning of their shows. The mission of the Blue Angels is to display the US Navy’s pride and professionalism through flight exhibitions and outreach.

Other Performers

In addition to aerobatic legends such as Team AeroDynamix, the Blue Angels, Skip Stewart, and the Screaming Eagles, there are many other performers that make their way to the Memphis Airshow.  2014’s show featured performances by:

Shockwave

o   Shockwave is the world’s fastest jet truck. Total output from Shockwave’s THREE jet engines is a mind-bending 36,000 horsepower. All that power is enough to propel the truck to just over 375 miles per hour!

Manfred Radius

Matt Younkin

o   Matt Younkin is the son of the great airshow pilot Bobby Younkin and he is carrying on tradition nicely.

Keith Davis
