It’s time to apply for an AOPA scholarship!
Apply for an AOPA scholarship by May 2nd
If you could benefit from an extra boost to your flight training funding, why not apply for an AOPA scholarship?
If you want to earn your private pilot’s license, unfortunately, you need more than simply drive and ambition to fulfill your dream. Flight training comes at a cost, which sadly none of us can prevent. However, one of the easiest ways to lessen the financial burden of flight training is to apply for a scholarship!
There are lots of different scholarships out there, and the 2018 Flight Training Scholarship Program is just one of them (if you want to learn more about the various scholarship programs available to would-be pilots, check out our scholarships page).
Funded by both the AOPA Foundation and the You Can Fly High School Aviation Initiative, the 2018 Flight Training Scholarship Program is aimed at high school students and AOPA members aged 15 years and over.
There are three types of scholarship available this year:
AOPA High School Flight Training Scholarship
Designed for eligible high school students aged 15-18, this scholarship can be used towards your sport, private or recreational pilot’s license. There are an unbelievable 20 scholarships available, each one worth $5,000, and you don’t even have to be an AOPA member to apply!
If you want to apply for an AOPA scholarship of this type, it’s essential you can demonstrate a genuine passion for aviation and can communicate why earning your wings is so important for you. If you feel ready to do that, you can apply now!
AOPA Foundation Primary Certification Scholarships
Even if you’re not in high school, but you’re aged 16 or over, you can still apply for an AOPA scholarship. The Foundation Primary Certification Scholarships are worth anywhere between $2,500 and $7,500 and again can be put towards your sport, private or recreational pilot’s license.
You will need to be an AOPA member to apply, and there are certain conditions you will also need to meet. Applications are already open, so what’s stopping you?
AOPA Foundation Advanced Rating Scholarships
If you already have your pilot’s license and are funding further training – particularly your Instrument, Commercial, DFI, CFII, or MEI certification – the Advanced Rating Scholarship is for you. For Instrument training, you need to be 17 years or older, while all other certifications require you to be 18 or older.
AOPA membership is also a pre-requisite too, while there are further eligibility factors you should be check before applying. If all is in order, however, there could be a scholarship worth anywhere between $3,000 and $10,000 waiting for you – so don’t leave it too long!
Applications for all of the above close on May 2nd, so you still have some time to apply for an AOPA scholarship. Remember – it could make a genuine difference to your ability to train, and there’s nothing to lose in applying.
All that’s left is for us to do is to wish you the best of luck!
