Top Spots for Eating Out in Memphis

Learning to fly at our Tennessee flight school doesn’t just mean taking advantage of outstanding training.  You also get the chance to soak up everything the area has to offer – and that includes the food!

Memphis is famed for its cuisine, with visitors coming from all over for their own piece of the culinary action. From Southern-style breakfasts to BBQ like no other, we’ve put together a definitive list of places to visit during your time at CTI PFT.

Places to eat:

1. The Pancake Shop

Start the day the Southern way with breakfast at The Pancake Shop!  This small, independent and very friendly restaurant in East Memphis is a favorite with locals.  The great news is you can get your breakfast fix all day long here; enjoy delicious country ham, grits – and, of course – a stack of pancakes (rumored to be the best in the city!).

2. Gus’s World Famous Fried Chicken

A longstanding Tennessee institution, generations have fallen in love with Gus’s irresistible hot and spicy fried chicken.  Once you’ve bitten into that crispy, spicy coating, it won’t be long before you’re back for more!  With two locations in the city (Downtown and East Memphis) and two more in nearby Collierville and Bartlett, it’d be a crime not to try it at least once while you’re here!

3. Central BBQ

There’s a reason why Central BBQ ships its famous slow-smoked, Memphis-style BBQ food all over the States – people can’t get enough of it!  Luckily, with locations in Downtown, Midtown, and East Memphis, you don’t need to go to the trouble of having yours flown to you.  Central BBQ has been ranked #1 BBQ in Memphis since 2005, featuring on TV and in magazines across the nation – but the only way to find out why is to try it!

4. Huey’s Burgers

Again offering locations in Downtown, Midtown, and East Memphis, as well as more to the east and south of the city, Huey’s promises the best burgers in town, as well as sandwiches, salads, and soups.  Serving up ‘Blues, Brews & Burgers’ since 1970, people come time and again for the great food and great atmosphere.  And once you’ve wolfed down your world-famous Huey Burger, leave your mark on the graffiti wall and your toothpick in the ceiling! This is definitely a great place for eating out in Memphis!

5. Bedrock Eats and Sweets

For a more wholesome and healthy bite to eat, head along to Bedrock on South Main.  With a commitment that no ingredients are refined, processed or modified, Bedrock offers a fantastic range of delicious yet healthy dishes for you to enjoy (the signature Paleo Pancakes are a must-try!). Who knew you could dine guilt-free in Memphis?

6. Flight

A little more on the swanky side, Flight on South Main is more suitable for a special night out – but we had to include it for our trainee pilots!  Based on the concept of serving a variety of dishes in smaller portions rather than one main dish (although you can still do this!), Flight has won many fans for its tasty food and innovative approach.  Perfect for when your folks are in town!

As you can see, eating out in Memphis can be a blast!
