Things to do in Memphis Summer 2016In between learning how to fly and getting one step closer to your pilot’s license, it’s important to take some downtime.  The great news for our Tennessee flight school students is that there are some great things to do in Memphis this summer!

  1. The 2016 Orion Free Music Concert Series

This annual summer tradition returns to bring great music to the people of Memphis with no price tag attached.  Relax back in beautiful Overton Park at the legendary Levitt Shell and enjoy an evening listening to artists from this year’s amazing line-up.

  1. The Orpheum’s Summer Movies Series

Presenting feel-good movies perfect for summer, The Orpheum Summer Movies Series is back, this time taking place in two venues.  Choose from classics ranging from Grease to Gone with the Wind, from Tootsie to 10 Things I Hate About You.

  1. Rooftop Parties at The Peabody

Every Thursday night through to August 18, The Peabody Hotel

For great food, drink and live music, head to the legendary Peabody Hotel for one of its legendary Rooftop Parties. Named one of “The Top 10 Rooftop Bars” by, the Peabody offers sensational views across the city and Mississippi River, as well as a party to remember!

  1. Memphis Redbirds Season

Summer wouldn’t be summer without some good old fashioned fun at the ballgame! Cheer on the Redbirds in their bid to become Pacific Coast League champions – and with fixtures including nail-biting games against chief rivals Nashville, it’s sure to be a great season!

  1. The Mid-South Bike Fest

July 20-24, Liberty Bowl

A celebration of motorcycling, the Mid-South Bike Fest gives visitors a chance to check out amazing bikes and vehicles, listen to live music and take part in the Biker Rodeo Games! What’s more, all proceeds go to benefit local youth who are in need and at risk.

  1. Elvis Week

August 10-16, Graceland

It’s the week when fans come from all over the world to celebrate the life of the King!  Enjoy Elvis-themed events including Elvis tribute contests, panel discussions and even a 5k run.  Culminating in the all-night Candlelight Vigil in Graceland’s Meditation Garden, this week not only celebrates Elvis, but also the culture of Memphis itself.

  1. The Mid-South Renaissance Faire

August 20, 21, 27 & 28, Shelby Farms Park Conservancy

Back for its second year, the Mid-South Renaissance Faire offers something completely different.  This public, family-friendly outdoor gathering takes visitors back to Elizabethan England for a chance to learn Elizabethan dances, feast on giant turkey legs, watch daring jousts and even be knighted by Queen Elizabeth herself!
