Sun ‘n Fun International Fly-In and Expo
Sun ‘n Fun in Lakeland, Florida is one of the largest and most popular Spring events for the aviation world. For several years it’s been described as the “Spring break for pilots.” With around 500 exhibitors, daily airshows, thousands of airplanes and pilots, and onsite camping it’s every aviators dream week. The event runs from April 2 – 7. If you make it, here are some things you do not want to miss.
U.S. Navy Blue Angels
The Blue Angels will be performing Thursday through Sunday. When they’re not in the air, the jets are line up on display in precision formation. Make sure to watch the pilots board their jets before their performance. The thought and detail involved in the boarding is part of the show!
U.S. Red Bull Air Race
Have you ever seen these dare devil aviators in person? The low-level, high-speed pylon races take place in front of millions of spectators throughout the year. This show is a must see at this year’s Sun ‘n Fun expo.
The Aircraft Lineup
One the coolest things about the expo is checking out all the different aircrafts on display. Get up and close to rare aircraft, military aircraft, and more. Have you ever seen an F-22 Raptor or a B-25 Mitchell bomber in person? In addition, general aviation manufacturers will have their newest piston single and twin engines, turboprops, and jets on display.
Career Fair
If you’re looking to break into a career in aviation, advance your career, or look at what’s possible, the three-day career fair from Thursday to Saturday will give you a great opportunity to network with aviation companies. GA manufacturers to airlines and government agencies will all be attending the fair.
Hands on Workshops
Interested in restoring or building an aircraft? Take advantage of workshops on woodworking, metal fabrication, welding techniques, avionics and electrical work, fabric covering, safety wiring, engine installation, and more. Gain practical experience and boost your confidence.
Movie Night
If you decide to make a camping trip out of it with the onsite camping options don’t miss movie night. Watch aviation-themed movies under the stars with fellow aviators each night at 8 p.m. at the convention campground. Watching aviation movies outdoors at an airport – no movie theater can compete with that.
Shopping
Don’t forget to look for the shopping bargains. Many exhibitors have special show offers with good discounts. Sun ‘n Fun also features a parts exchange, where you can find consignment items.
